like the Unlimited and Sport Class.
However, having been an EAA member
for more than 30 years, it is my opinion
that the builders and race teams
in Formula One, with their always
evolving Cassutts, Shoestrings, and
one-of-a-kind racers, embody the true
spirit of the EAA movement. It is no
coincidence that many International
Formula One members are also active
EAA members.
Any recognition of that is greatly
appreciated.

Several Cherokee Six fly in the Swiss

horsepower, the better the skiplane.
Wheel cutouts and wheel
penetration skis—We found that the
area behind the wheel gives little snow
support, but increases high drag. Most
wheel penetration skis increase snow
takeoff up to twice the length of wheel
skis.
Correction to Nevada
Delegation Listing
In the January issue of EAA Sport
Aviation magazine in the Hotline article
“EAA Opposes Dangerous Airport
Access Precedent” (page 10), there is
an error in the Nevada congressional
delegation listing in the last paragraph.
This list included Jon C. Porter (R-3rd).
This is incorrect. Dina Titus defeated
Porter. The correct entry is Dina Titus
(D-3rd). I verified this on the Nevada
Secretary of State website.
Please ensure that all of EAA has
the correct listing for all of our elected
officials.

Comments About Skis
Congratulations to Rick Discher for
the time and expense in obtaining
approvals for new skis (January
2009, “Reinventing the Ski”). Having
spent 27 years designing, obtaining
technical standards orders, STCs, and
aircraft manufacturer approvals for
a corporation that held the largest
number of approvals worldwide, I am
well aware of the problems he must
have had.
I do have several comments on
skis:
Clamp-on skis—Approved on some
older aircraft in the United States (not
Canada), they can be dangerous due
to the fact they can pull the tire off the
wheel if the tire is underinflated.
Tricycle skiplanes—Some of our best
approvals were tricycle aircraft: Cessna
