Tech Specs
The specifications and performance, as well as the price
information listed below, are current as of this writing but
are subject to change.
The weight/power spec in the performance table should
be noted. The rough rule of thumb for helicopter
performance is that a number generated by dividing
the gross weight by the available horsepower being
10 or smaller indicates the possibility of acceptable
performance. This isn’t always true because using a
2-by- 8 plank instead of a well-designed rotor blade would
make the weight/power spec useless. However, look at
the weight/power spec of the Air: 8. 8 pounds/hp. The
specs for the Bell Jet Ranger are 2,998 max gross and
317 shp, and it has a weight/power spec of 9. 5! With the
exception of the XE and XEL, the Mosquito models have
a better weight/power ratio than a loaded Jet Ranger. The
R22 with its engine derated to 131 hp and 1,370 gross
weight gives a weight/power spec of 10. 5 pounds/hp.
