Williams Int’l Completes Alternative Fuel Testing
Williams International has completed extended testing
of alternative fuel in a small gas turbine engine widely
used in the general aviation market. An FJ44-3 engine
was powered by 2,000 gallons of coal-based, alternative
fuel for 118 cycles during 21 hours of running at Williams’ Walled Lake, Michigan, facility. The synthetic fuel
performed extremely well; the engine performance was
identical to using Jet A fuel and required no special engine or test cell modifications for the demonstration.

Tecnam Donates Plane to Embry-Riddle
Costruzioni Aeronautiche Tecnam Srl. and Michael and
Lynne Birmingham, U.S. distributors for the Tecnam aircraft line, have donated a 2009 Tecnam P92 Echo Classic,
a light-sport aircraft valued at $125,000, to Embry-Riddle’s
Daytona Beach flight team. The flight team will be the first
in the nation to fly the new plane in the upcoming National
Intercollegiate Flying Association’s SAFECON 2009 competition May 17-29 at Parks College of St. Louis University.
