baptized in the Presbyterian Church of Burt, Iowa. The
family moved to Des Moines when he was a young child.
He attended public
schools and graduated
from high school in 1937.
He attended Ames College
and participated in the

for the Iowa National Guard. After leaving the Guard in
1946, Stewart remained a professional pilot and flight
instructor. He owned a fixed base operation in Algona,
Iowa, from 1953 to 1958. From 1958 to 1977 he worked
as a corporate pilot for the Gardner Denver Corporation.
He later moved to Grant, Nebraska, to instruct and fly for
Trego Aviation and the Barrett Corporation. He settled
in Phoenix, Arizona, where he instructed for Cutter
Aviation’s Beech Aero Club.
Friends and family are invited to post obituaries and sign a
memorial guestbook online for Stewart and other EAAers who
have “gone west” at www.EAA.org/obituaries. The names
and stories of each person enshrined on EAA’s Memorial Wall
in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, are also available here.
