Eagles co-chair is equal to Sully’s.
“I’m very enthusiastic about
working with all the people at EAA
and the Young Eagles volunteers
who fly the airplanes all around the
country,” he said.
Today’s Leaders
EAA’s Young Eagles program is in
capable hands under the leadership
of Sully and Jeff. Harrison and EAA
President Tom Poberezny expressed
tremendous confidence in the
direction the program will go under
their leadership. “The example they
set by their behavior when they took
that airplane into the Hudson is
certainly an expression of character
that is worthy of emulation,”
Harrison said. “Since I’ve come to
know them I find them both to be
really remarkable human beings,
each in their own way. I’m proud to
have been able to attract leadership
of such significance.”
Tom agreed. “Harrison and I were
delighted when Sully and Jeff agreed
to co-chair the program. They were
ideal candidates not only because of
the skill they demonstrated on that
fateful day in January but also, and
perhaps more significantly, because
of the leadership they’ve shown
since that time,” he said.
With praise such as that, the job
ahead for Sully and Jeff might seem
daunting, but these two professionals
will likely approach it with the same
preparation, training, and teamwork
that led to a successful outcome on
the Hudson River. Couple that with
the passion they want to share with
tomorrow’s aviation leaders and
the number of Young Eagles flown,
and the program itself is certain to
grow. Nowhere is that passion more
evident than when Jeff explains why
he immediately agreed to accept the
role of Young Eagles co-chair.
“You can’t really explain it to
them, you have to experience it;
you have to get up in an airplane
to know what it’s like and know
that this is what you want to do,
whether as a hobby or a job in the
future,” Jeff said. “The Young Eagles
program is about that, about giving
them opportunities.”
