what our members are building & restoring
Canada | Skybolt
On June 3, 2009, Skybolt C-GSLE lifted off Runway 28 at our local
airport with the skillful hands of retired RCAF Col. Fern Villeneuve,
our test pilot, at the controls. After adjusting the elevator servo tabs
and resetting the wing angles of incidence, the aircraft flies just
like an aerobatic biplane should. A Lycoming IO-360 engine and
Hoffman constant-speed propeller power our Skybolt. Covering and
paint is from Poly-Fiber. Special thanks to Garry Fancy, the builder
of two Skybolts, for encouragement and advice; to Jim Simmons
(N619JS) for designing the great paint scheme; and to my wife,
Sandy, for putting up with 24 years of welding, gluing, sawing, and
painting in the house.

Ralph Hodge started construction in 1991. I began helping and
soon became a full partner. Regretfully, Ralph lost his life in 1988
in a plane incident. After many life delays, I completed the RV in
2009. First flight was on July 6, 2009, from Covey Trails Airport
(X09) in Fulshear, Texas. Test pilot Jim Bowerman says it’s a good,
fun-flying airplane.
