A SkyCatcher Odyssey
; NEW AIRPLANE, ; PILOTS, AND A TRIP ALONG INTERSTATE ;;
WALKING ACROSS THE RAMP at Tampa Executive
Airport on November 1, 2009, the significance of our
11: 10 a.m. arrival hit me like a bug to a windscreen:
We flew from San Diego to Tampa in a Cessna 162
SkyCatcher in exactly 72 hours.
;e trip laid out by Cessna’s Kirby Ortega seemed
rather ambitious to some of my pilot friends—those who
still struggle to get their arms around the concept and
appeal of light-sport aircraft (LSA). To me, however, the
opportunity to spend three days flying the SkyCatcher
across the United States o;ered reason enough to make
Tampa by way of San Diego—by way of LSA.
