birthday recently by passing his private
pilot checkride in his family’s Cessna 152.
;e year before he celebrated by earning
his private glider certificate and soloing a
Cessna 150. Next on his list is his commercial glider certificate. Good Luck,

Van’s Air Force Team Sets New Guinness Record
THE VAN’S AIR FORCE FFI RV Formation Team was awarded
another Guinness World Record for its 37-ship formation during EAA AirVenture 2009. ;e RV fliers consist of Formation
Flying Incorporated (FFI) card holders from nine states. ;e
group included RV-4s, RV-6s, RV-7s, and RV-8s (some A models) and was led by Stu McCurdy of Round Rock, Texas. ;e
previous record, also held by the group, was for a 35-ship formation during AirVenture 2007.
Eugene Balogh, EAA 857992, of Florida
passed his sport pilot checkride in
September 2009 at the age of 82. Eugene
flies an L- 2 Grasshopper and likes to tease
his son, still a student pilot, that, “Some
people have it, and some people have to get
it!” Congrats, Eugene!
