Before and after:
a few swipes of the china
marker over the end of the
drill bit quickly makes the
drill bit stamping jump out.
EASY TO READ
DRILL BITS
BY CHARLIE BECKER
NOW THAT I’M ON the other side of 40, reading
the stamped number or letter on a drill bit shank
is nearly impossible. Here is a tip I picked up from
a woodworking magazine that will make this problem go away. Buy a white or yellow “china marker”
from your local hardware or hobby store. (I bought
a white one at Hobby Lobby for 99 cents). ;en
simply rub the stamped shank to fill the grooves,
and wipe o; the excess. Voila, an easy to read drill
bit…even for someone over 40!
CHINA MARKER
A BRIGHT COLOR ;YELLOW or white) china
marker works best. When you go shopping for
one, don’t be surprised if the sales associates
don’t know what you’re talking about. Some
stores call them grease pencils. At hardware
stores, they’re often found in the tile section.
Don’t give up; they do exist!
