GONE WEST
MEMBER CENTRAL
Suzanne DeLano Parish
11/13/1922–5/12/2010
SUZANNE DELANO PARISH, EAA 70254, who
was the first woman inducted into the EAA
Warbirds of America Hall of Fame, passed
away May 12 in Palm Springs, California. She
was 87.
A lifelong resident of Kalamazoo, Michigan,
Suzanne was awarded a Congressional Gold
Medal for her service with the Women Airforce
Service Pilots (WASP) earlier this year. She
was co-founder and vice-chairwoman of the
Kalamazoo Aviation History Museum—the
Air Zoo—and also a member of the Michigan
Aviation Hall of Fame. She was inducted into
the EAA Warbirds Hall of Fame in 1997.
Suzanne was long associated with her
pink Curtiss P- 40 Warhawk that she flew in
air shows for more than a quarter-century,
including many AirVenture Oshkosh fly-ins.
Today the airplane hangs in the main entrance
to the Air Zoo. She flew the P- 40 into her 60s
and then continued flying her Beechcraft T- 34,
which she also had painted pink.
She is survived by five children, 14
grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. A
memorial service and reception for family and
friends was held June 19 at the Air Zoo.
Friends and family are invited to post obituaries and
sign a memorial guestbook online for Suzanne and other
EAAers who have “gone west” at www.EAA.org/obituaries. The
names and stories of each person enshrined on EAA’s Memorial
Wall in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, are also available here.
