DC- 3 ‘MAX EFFORT’
AT OSHKOSH
AIRVENTURE’S DC- 3 75th anniversary
celebration will include a DC- 3 and
C- 47 Max-Effort Day, Tuesday, July
27. Visitors will see formation flights
and aerial displays from any DC- 3
aircraft available to be flown that day,
including aircraft in airline and military
configurations.
Other highlights of the weeklong
DC- 3 celebration include: A special DC-
3/C- 47 reunion evening at Theater in
the Woods; Salute to Veterans activities;
air show programs including a unique
heritage flight pairing the C- 47 with
the modern C- 17 Globemaster; and an
appearance by the aircraft and pilots of
Canadian reality TV series Ice Pilots,
based on Buffalo Airways, which operates
DC-3s in daily passenger service.
A large number of DC-3/C- 47
operators have committed to arrive at
Oshkosh. Other operators who wish
to participate should contact EAA at
dc3@eaa.org to receive specific details
on arrival procedures, aircraft parking,
accommodations, and other logistics.
EAA’S SKYCATCHERS ARRIVE
Two new Cessna Skycatchers landed at
Wittman Regional Airport in May. They will
be used for flight opportunities in EAA’s Air
Academy and Young Eagles program. The
new light-sport aircraft were provided by The
Buehler Trust, which has been instrumental
in helping EAA build its youth education
programming, supporting the Leadership
Center, Air Academy programming, the Young
Eagles website, and chapter programming to
keep young people engaged in flight.
AIRVENTURE AIRCRAFT
AUCTION
As of early June, EAA’s Spirit of Aviation
Aircraft Auction scheduled for Saturday,
July 31, had 18 planes registered. Aircraft
include production planes as well as
homebuilts, and even a jet. The auction is
set to begin at 9: 30 a.m. at EAA’s Jack Mark
Hangar located just north of the North 40 at
Wittman Regional Airport.
Aircraft will be available for viewing in
person at AirVenture beginning July 26.

Symposium on Electric Aircraft as well as
AirVenture’s Aviation Learning Center.
The daylong symposium, Friday, July
30, will feature industry leaders discussing
electric propulsion aircraft in an open forum.
