George F. Stock Jr.
06/29/1929–05/26/2010
GEORGE STOCK JR., EAA 25618, died in
Woodstock, Illinois, at the age of 80. After
graduating from Woodstock High School, he
served in the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Hood,
Texas. He then worked as a truck driver for Peet
Frate Line for more than 30 years.
According to his son, George learned to fly
on his own. He held a private pilot certificate
for more than 50 years and was one of the
founding members of the Woodstock Flying
Club. In 1977 he finished a red and white Pitts
Special aircraft that he built from plans, and
went on to compete in aerobatic competitions.
In the early 1990s, he received first place in a
regional competition in Illinois.
He also judged world competitions, traveling
throughout the United States, Canada, England,
Czech Republic, Hungary, and France to be a
part of the events. George was a member of the
International Aerobatic Club for 40 years and
enjoyed attending EAA AirVenture Oshkosh.
