SELF-LAUNCHING SAILPLANE COMPLETES TEST FLIGHTS
DESERT AEROSPACE LLC completed certification test flights of the new TST-14J
BonusJet two-seat, self-launching sailplane. The aircraft also performed in
the first night air show at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2010.
With a 56-foot wingspan, the BonusJet is intended to be an efficient and
eco-friendly jet aircraft. The engine can be extended and restarted in flight,
and the start sequence is fully automatic, requiring only the flick of a switch
by the pilot, reducing the cockpit workload during a critical “low save”
situation while soaring.
The BonusJet is a modification of the TST- 14 Bonus glider, manufactured
by TeST Gliders (a division of Comp-Let), in the Czech Republic.
SPORTY’S RECENTLY INTRODUCED the SP-400, a
complete avionics stack that fits in the palm
of your hand. It combines a powerful comm
radio with last frequency flip-flop and a full-featured nav radio with course deviation
indicator and to/from indication. It’s also the
only portable radio that allows you to fly a full
instrument landing system (ILS) approach.
LYCOMING ENGINES RECENTLY announced its new TEO-
540-EXP integrated electronic engine (iE2) is now
available on the Lancair Evolution. The iE2, a twin-turbocharged and intercooled 350-plus-hp engine,
features a single lever that manages all the elements of
engine power: manifold pressure, rpm/prop speed, fuel
flow, and ignition timing.
TCW TECHNOLOGIES RECENTLY
announced its integrated backup
battery system (IBBS), a self-contained system providing
backup electrical power in
aircraft.
IBBS provides more than an
hour of backup run time for typical
electronic flight instrument or
global positioning systems, and
additionally allows for critical
systems to be fully operational before and during engine cranking. It also
provides 4 amp-hours of power in a unit weighing only 2. 5 pounds, saving
more than half the weight of a comparable lead-acid battery solution, the
company says.
The company also announced it is taking orders for
the non-certified version of its 115-hp 233 series light-sport aircraft (LSA) engine. The engine features dual
CDI spark ignition, an optimized oil sump, streamlined
accessory housing, hydraulically adjusted valve
tappets, lightweight starter, and lightweight alternator
with integral voltage regulator. Lancair is pricing the
iE2-equipped Evolution at $115,000.
