Pit Bulls
The crews that keep the Red Bull racers in the air
BY JAMES WYNBRANDT
IT’S LESS THAN 48 HOURS TO RACE DAY, and no pilot has yet flown the
track. With strong winds canceling yesterday’s practice session,
about the only training the race pilots have been able to do is circumambulate cans of Red Bull arranged like a poor man’s virtual
racecourse on hangar floors. No matter; the Red Bull Air Race
(RBAR) is in New York, media capital of the world. This popular
aerosport will be staged with the Statue of Liberty and lower
Manhattan as its backdrop. ▶
