trailer. There’s something pretty special about a chorus of small voices
saying thank you.
Four years old is pretty young. I don’t know what they’ll
remember of their “airport day.” But I’m pretty sure they’ll
remember they were at an airport and that it was a fun place with
wide open spaces. That’s a good memory.
And I look at it like this: Many people look up and see airplanes
flying, but how many actually give thought to the airplanes they
see, or know anything about airplanes? Sadly, not many. But these
kids—only 4 years old—have seen and touched an airplane and
have been to an airport and found joy there. These little “sponges
for knowledge” have experienced aviation. Give ’em credit; I think
they’ll remember. And perhaps, sometime, somewhere, when
they see an airplane, they’ll see it as not just an object but as
something they know something about. And, hopefully, that little
spark will be motivation enough for them to want to learn to fly. I
certainly hope so. And it makes me feel good to think so.
While driving the kids back to the bus I turned on the tractor
seat and took the picture you’re looking at: smiling happy faces.
That’s a good memory, too.
