Sweeping a finger to follow your route is much easier and safer than folding and unfolding paper charts, plus with all the information available with the electronic versions, I’m
never bored in flight.
charts and VFR sectionals is a big plus, and seeing my position on
the map is also a good backup to my navigator.
But to me, the iPad is not my navigator. I think Garmin got it
right by introducing the advanced capability of the 796. As long as
I continue to rely on portable avionics, I expect to continue to use
the old-time VORs as primary, the portable moving-map navigator as my source for much, much more information and
situational awareness, and the iPad to replace the bagful of charts
and approach books I used to carry.
